Fall Flavors at Turner Fisheries

I've had the pleasure of dining at Turner Fisheries several times over the past few years.  I've sipped on their creative Bloody Mary cocktails during the summer and I've warmed up with their seafood risotto during the winter.  Thus, it is no surprise that I happily accepted an invitation to try out new fall menu this past week for a special blogger dinner.

I had a lovely evening with Rachel, Meghan and Monika, the Director of Food and Beverages.  We chatted together for several hours while we dined our way through several courses.  I have to say that I am always consistently impressed with the dishes and service at Turner Fisheries.  I have found that this kind of consistency isn't all that common, which is why it makes such a lasting impression on me.

Some of the standouts from the evening included the following:

Dirty Martini With Blue Cheese-Stuffed Olives

These grilled Island Creek oysters with maitaki mushrooms
and reisling cream was the best thing I've eaten in months!

Crispy Calamari with Pappadew Peppers, Capers and Roasted Garlic Aioli

I loved the delicate flavors of this Golden Beet Salad with
the creamiest goat cheese and basil oil.

Thank you Monika for ordering this Jonah Crab Cake
with Apple Slaw and Tamarind Reduction!

The Grilled Salmon was perfectly grilled and buttery in my mouth.

I loved this version of Bok Choy Kimchi!

We were too stuffed to really indulge in the dessert sampler,
but I loved, loved, loved the butternut squash ice cream!

It was wonderful to dine at Turner Fisheries and enjoy their seasonal fall dishes.  I'm definitely looking forward to returning there soon for some more of those delightful grilled oysters!

Full disclosure: The dinner was complimentary, but as always, my opinion is honest and completely my own.

A Cold Snowy Evening at Turner Fisheries

Back in November, I got an email from Turner Fisheries about new fall sustainable menu.  I've only been to Turner Fisheries once before and I was eager to check out their dinner menu.  Last night, I made the trek out in the cold snowy weather to meet my friend Kristen of Indulge, Inspire, Imbibe for dinner.

When we arrived, the restaurant and bar were both very quiet.  Kristen had arrived earlier and was waiting at the bar and we were seated immediately at a lovely window seat overlooking Dartmouth Street.  Although Kristen and I email regularly, I actually hadn't seen her in a few weeks and there was a lot to catch up on.  As a result, we took our time in ordering both our drinks and food.  Our server was completely patient and understanding and never made us feel rushed at all!

To start, I decided to order a glass of prosecco.  However, our server instead informed me that they were out of prosecco and instead offered me a glass of Veuve Clicquot (Yellow Label) at the same price.  I thought this was a nice gesture and I happily accepted my glass of Veuve!

After nibbling on the restaurant's bread basket and catching up over conversation, Kristen and I finally got to the serious task of ordering.  While we knew what we wanted for our respective entrees, we turned to our server for guidance on the appetizer and followed his recommendation for the seared diver scallops.

The seared diver scallops were seared to a perfect golden-brown crust without overcooking the scallops.  These giant scallops came with a rich and hearty butternut ragout, which I could have eaten on its own but went wonderfully with the scallops.

For my entree, I was definitely in the mood for something warm for the cold winter night so I ended up choosing the seafood risotto which contained bay scallops, Caribbean shrimp, halved grape tomatoes and lots of parmesan reggiano cheese.  The risotto was topped with a lobster tail and I was given a small bowl of melted butter to dip the lobster in.

This was a huge serving of risotto (so large that I ended up taking half of it home).  I loved that Turner Fisheries does not skimp on the seafood and every bite was filled with seafood.  The cheese added a nice saltiness to the dish while the tomatoes added fresh burst of acidity.

Kristen went with the seared ahi tuna and while I didn't taste her dish, I've got to say that it was really beautifully plated.  She also thoroughly enjoyed her dish but also found the serving to be huge!

At this time, Kristen and I were both ready for another drink and we both decided to order the Harvest Cocktail, which contained a combination of apple pucker, butterscotch schnapps and Stoli vanilla vodka.  I was hesitant because of its neon green hue but it seriously tasted like a candied apple without being overly sweet.

Of course, we couldn't resist dessert and decided to split a cranberry creme brulee which contained both Grand Marnier and cranberries.  We were confused by the gummy cranberry substance that accompanied the brulee but it definitely brought out the cranberry flavors of the creme brulee!

Before we knew it, Kristen and I were the only diners in the restaurant and we closed down the place.  Our server definitely understood that we were there to catch up and to dine at a leisurely pace and I was appreciative that he never made us feel rushed and the pace of the meal was definitely pleasant.  While the food was delicious, it is this wonderful service that makes you want to return.

I'd also like to add that although I was contacted by Turner Fisheries to come check out the menu, this meal was fully paid by Kristen and I and this opinion is completely honest and my own.

Bloodypalooza at Turner Fisheries

After weeks of hearing about Turner Fisheries' weekly Bloodypalooza event, I was excited to finally check it out at a preview event hosted by Citysearch Boston

Despite walking by Turner Fisheries many times, I've actually never been there before and I really like how beautiful the restaurant was with its tall ceilings and windows.  Bret and I arrived a few minutes early and we were ushered to a private room and found that Meghan of Travel, Wine and Dine was already there with her husband Eric.  We were all in agreement that there is no better way to start the weekend off than with a Bloody Mary and we eagerly headed to the Bloody Mary bar set up for the event.

To start, we were offered a shot of their Lobster Mary, which is a traditional Bloody Mary mix strained to a clear liquid and combined with a house lobster juice.  While I adore a good Bloody Mary and have an equal affection for lobster broth, this was just not the Bloody Mary for me.

I decided to order a traditional Bloody Mary and when Meghan asked for extra horseradish, we were assured that the house Bloody Mary mix is very spicy.  I was happy to report that he was right and this Bloody Mary had a wonderful kick to it.  Everybody was allowed to pick your own garnish and I went with a spicy pickled green bean and blue cheese stuffed olives.  I can never resist a blue cheese stuffed olive!

There was plenty of food  as well with a station set up with some delicious sandwiches.

My favorite was a delightful little wrap filled with lobster meat.

Another big hit were the upstate New York spiedies filled with grilled shrimp.  I really loved the crusty bread on this sandwich.

I also enjoyed their Bloody Mary infused risotto and chicken breast.

While Bret eagerly chowed down on Turner Fisheries' "Hall of Fame" clam chowder.

We had a great time getting a small taste of Turner Fisheries' menu while catching up with some of my favorite food-loving pals, including Justin and his ever-friendly wife Leah, and the always on-the-go Athena of Forays of a Finance Foodie.  It was a great way to start the weekend off with great Bloody Marys and wonderful conversation.  And of course I remembered to take at least one photo that involved people and not just food!  Here is a photo of Meghan and I (and don't forget to check out her blog for a great re-cap of the event):

Thanks to Citysearch Boston and Turner Fisheries for hosting such a wonderful event and for helping make my weekend start off on the right note!
