Margaritas | Martinis | Inception

Well good morning blog world and friends. It's not often I get to type those words - "good morning". It's a flex Friday where I have absolutely nothing to do (besides go out to lunch) and I am currently blogging from bed. I woke up, unloaded the dishwasher while my coffee brewed and now, here I am. I thought to myself as I made my coffee, if I wished everyday could be like this? I pondered. No, definitely not. Financial reasons aside, I wouldn't cherish this morning as much as I am, if it were the norm. I have had every Friday off since June and none of them have felt quite like today. I suspect my weekend will be along the same lines, because I have zero plans. ZERO. How nice is that? I think I will make plans with myself. Actually, with my apartment. I need to clean it. Badly.

Despite the impression that first paragraph might have given you, I am not here to ramble. I'm here to share some treats from Thursday. Warning: the following pictures will have your mouth watering, ready to consume an alcoholic beverage or six at 9am.
That would be a Lime In The Coconut Margarita from none other than: Margaritas! Margaritas is a Mexican chain restaurant with 21 locations throughout New England in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut. The last time I went to a Margaritas was actually in college. The girls and I hit up the Portsmouth location where we proudly presented our freshly laminated 21 year old IDs and celebrated the 21st birthday of the last one of us to become legal.I think it goes without saying that their margaritas are exceptional. Yes, they do indeed live up to the namesake.
Yesterday I went to lunch with co-workers at the new location in Medford. The staff including our two hostesses and waitress were super friendly from the moment we walked in. It is a nice feeling when people seem genuinely excited for you to walk into their restaurant. I remember the food being pretty good when I went in college, but what I had yesterday blew me out of the water!
The Fish Tacos ($9.95) were filled with tortilla encrusted Tilapia fish and stuffed with home-made corn salsa and shredded red cabbage. I also got a side of rice and black beans for 99 cents. Just look at how colorful that plate is. The Tilapia was excellent while the roasted corn salsa and fresh cabbage were super flavorful. After this little outing my Thursday continued into the Theater District where I had some pre-movie drinks with Adam and Mike at Intermission Tavern. (Picture linked from their website.) You'd miss it if you didn't know it existed. A theatrical themed tavern located at 228 Tremont Street, Intermission has provided many pre and post movie drinks and bites to eat since I've lived in the city. One of my favorite things about Intermission Tavern is their exceptional 10 oz. martini menu. You have 17 martinis from which to choose - and all that I've sampled over the years have proven pure cocktail heaven. First off, 10 oz is huge. Second, I believe $11 is an extremely reasonable price for martinis of this caliber and size. Tonight I knew I was gonna need a strong one and went with the Perfect Vodka ($11) Grey Goose Vodka, with a splash of Italian vermouth, served with bleu cheese stuffed olives.
I ordered mine dirty. The thick, creamy, stinky bleu cheese exploding from potent vodka soaked olives hit the spot.
Ten ounces of pure bliss right there, topped with the goddess of all drink garnishes. A fun and lively tavern that is a true hidden gem in the midst of the Tremont Street hustle and bustle, make Intermission Tavern your next pre or post theater drink spot!

And then my friends, then it was off to see the 8:15 showing of Inception at the Boston Common Loews. Unreal. Do yourself a favor: see this movie. Don't walk, run to your nearest movie theater and catch this exhilarating, mind blowing, fist clenching, intense from start to finish, surreal action packed movie. The cast is phenomenal to boot. Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard - everyone was engaging, mesmerizing, and just brilliant. Writer and Director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia, Batman Begins, The Prestige, The Dank Knight) is "six for six" Adam stated as we walked out of the theater in a trance, attempting to bring ourselves back into reality.

Wishing you all a very happy Friday. What are your plans this weekend? I'm off to shower and get ready for lunch. I'll hopefully be back this afternoon!
