It was a liquid lunch on my fourth summer flex Friday outing. Completely acceptable in my book, especially since the restaurant I had in mind ended up turning into dinner as opposed to lunch. On this gorgeous Friday afternoon my girlfriends from college made their way into the city. The warm temperature and clear blue sunny skies called for drinks on the waterfront. We strolled over to The Landing at Long Wharf. Though I only spent a minimal amount of time here three years ago on a work outing, I thought it would be a great spot to relax and unwind after a hectic work week. It was, but not without one major fault....
...the margaritas. The Cadillac Margarita Cuervo, Cointreau & Sour Mix was uninspired and incredibly sugary sweet and tart. The pre-made mix had me wincing with every sip. It was like drinking a Sweet Tart candy as my friend Laura pointed out. I felt disappointed in The Landing for botching one of my favorite summer cocktails and myself for making the mistake of ordering a margarita described on the menu with "sour mix." I guess I had faith that they would at least provide a decent mix?!
I do enjoy the the neon yellow cups, so they get a few points for fun presentation. On the left Tricia is drinking a Swedish Lemonade Cranberry Vodka & lemonade that was a winner in her book, as evidenced by the fact that she drank three of them ;) I guess Laura and I chose the wrong specialty drink! I finished my sticky sweet and sour margarita rather quickly, just hoping to get it down and move on. On a positive note, the booze in the drink wasn't lacking. I knew my buzz was headed in the right direction.
For the next round I followed in Corinne's footsteps. She had the right idea ordering an ice cold Corona with lime.
Our waitress, who was prompt and friendly all afternoon, suggested a bucket of beer. You get six for the price of five. Not the deal of the century, but a deal none-the-less. Coronas never looked so pretty and never tasted so good. Future patrons, consider yourselves warned; be weary the specialty drink menu. I must also inform you that The Landing offers Signature Fish Bowl Cocktails. However, they don't advertise them well! (Maybe next time ladies...)
It was great to spend time with the girls. I hadn't seen Laura since we visited her in Boulder, Colorado this past April!
Codzilla entrance in the background is pretty hilarious, no?!
Waterfront relaxation at its best if you ask me. Liquid lunch was the perfect way to kick off a holiday weekend.
However, now we were starved. I whipped up some appetizers upon our return to my apartment where Erin was meeting up with us, as well as our friend Mike, and Corinne's boyfriend Matt. In addition to the standard cheese and crackers and hummus and pita bread, I made a Caprese Salad.
I also made prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. (Thanks Mom for turning me onto this delicacy.)
We continued to drink well into the evening.
Those appetizers only held us over for so long. We headed out to dinner at Ducali Pizzeria & Bar. Review in a separate post to follow!
