First Game at Fenway for the Season!

Last night I was lucky enough to get to go to Fenway to watch the Sox for the evening.  My friend M had an extra ticket and invited me along, and needless to say I was more than willing to go.  There is something about baseball for me that really just triggers spring and summer.  Going to Fenway really means that summer is right around the corner!

Working only a few stops away, I made sure to bring my Sox t-shirt and hat to work so I would be fully prepared for the evening.  As I sat in my office waiting to go, I was so happy to see how fantastic the weather was - sunny and warm.  I could only hope that it held out a little while longer.  Lucky for us it did!  The seats were before Pesky's Pole in Right field and gave us a great view of most things going on in the stadium.  I always love trying new seats at Fenway because each one is completely different - for better or worse, you never know what you are going to get.  Tonight, it was definitely better!

It really wasn't that cloudy!

One of the most recent modifications to Fenway are the new scoreboard up over the bleachers.  I was not sure what to expect because I had heard conflicting reports on how much better they really were.  Lets just say I was beyond impressed.

The highlights shown during the game were actually watchable.  Now you can actually get an idea of what the players look like!  The Bank of America board keeps you fully to to date on the time, pitch count, batters - everything.  They are so crystal clear - its amazing!

In light of the events that occurred Sunday night, last night's game felt extremely patriotic.  Many men in uniform were honored and highlighted throughout the game.  However, to start there was a moment of silence in honor of the victims of September 11.

They even did the flag drop over the green monster.

Flag Drop
Having never seen this in person before, it really was impressive.  Not going into the game expecting any of this made the experience that much more memorable.

Another great part about going to games is the food and drink.  Since it was a Monday night and I had bootcamp in the morning, we keep both to a minimum, but I still made sure I got my Italian sausage - its too difficult for me to go to Fenway and NOT get a hot dog or sausage.  They are always just as good as I remember!

YUM
Always a tasty greasy treat at the game!  I am not a pepper fan so rather than having to pick them out, I just go with no veggies, but make up for it in the ketchup and mustard department.  Fenway is going high class with their dijon style mustard - not just the bright yellow stuff anymore!  I even saw signs for sushi - go figure!

As you probably know, the Sox actually won and I of course feel like I had a major hand in that win.  Always way more fun watching them win!  The 7th inning was especially fun to watch!

With my first trip of the season to Fenway down (thanks M!) summer should be right around the corner, right???  What signifies summer to you?
