A Quiet Moment at Milk Street Café

On Thursday morning, I had an appointment to meet with a colleague at Milk Street Café. We are part of the same professional networking group and had agreed to meet for coffee.

I arrived ten minutes before our 9:30 AM coffee meeting and I was famished. I didn’t have time for breakfast in the morning so I perused what was left of their breakfast pastries after the morning rush. I asked the guy behind the counter what he recommended and he directed me to their pumpkin muffin.

This enormous muffin was delicious as expected – moist but with a crumble top. Since I’m not a big fan of raisins, I was relieved to find just a few raisins in the muffin. This pumpkin muffin went perfectly with my skim chai latte and it gave me a lot of time to reflect. There have been a lot of changes in my life the past few months and I needed this quiet moment of reflection over breakfast.

Boston Burger Battle at KO Prime

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending the second annual Boston Burger Battle at KO Prime.  Local area chefs put their best burgers forward all in the name of a good cause - Autism Speaks. 

Bret and I managed to sample every burger by splitting most of them but even with that strategy, we were still stuffed!  I managed to get photos of each of these delicious burgers so that you can see our gluttony.  The lighting was dim so please forgive the appearance of these photos!

These fried oysters added both crunch and flavor to this burger.

The homemade pickles on this burger were outstanding!

While I normally adore Charlie's Kitchen, this burger was a tad over-cooked.

The pickles that came with this burger aren't pictured but they were seriously addictive!

I declared this burger like a gourmet McDonald's cheeseburger
and I meant it in the best way possible!

This burger tasted as good as it looked!

Is that Chef Will Gilson or the Hamburglar?

I think I'll be dreaming about these flaky crumbly biscuits.

I of course had to save my favorite three burgers for last....

Chef Ming Tsai later joined in the action.

Technically this wasn't a burger, but it still made my top three!

The burger literally melted in my mouth and the cherry pepper sauce
added a lot of heat!  Plus, the pickle won major bonus points!

The Bristol Lounge won last year and it got my vote this year!

These delightful mini sirloin burgers were topped with foie torchon,
grilled buttery buns and a potato that deceptively looked like an onion ring!

Introducing NabeWise Boston!

Last month, I got an email from my friend Susie about NabeWise Boston.  After a whirlwind month, I finally got a chance to sit down and really check out the website.  After poking around, I discovered that NabeWise helps people who are moving pick the best neighborhood in the city for them.  It also helps visitors figure out what part of the city to stay in or visit.  As a user, you can review and rate neighborhoods in Boston (or in one of the other cities where NabeWise has launched).

For instance, NabeWise allows you to review and rate neighborhoods based on different characteristics, like quality of life (average rent, safety, public transportation, parking), character (clean, trendy), people (singles, families, students) and things to do (dining, nightlife, shopping, activities).  Based on these different attributes, you can narrow down which neighborhood would be a good fit to live or visit and find out some pretty interesting information like the median cost of homes or rental prices in that neighborhood.  I'm not planning on moving anytime soon but I was still interested in checking out the facts about my neighborhood!

The cool thing is that NabeWise highlights the best blogs in each neighborhood to help people get involved and truly understand their new potential residence or vacation spot.  Since I have lived in Beacon Hill for seven years now, I'm excited that NabeWise has listed Fun and Fearless in Beantown as a resource for the Beacon Hill page!  I know, it is a bit of self-promotion but I'm proud to be listed!

I also wanted to mention that NabeWiseBoston has a pretty awesome Twitter page and keeps me informed about different Boston activities, events and news.  So if you're not interested in joining NabeWise, I'd recommend that you follow their Twitter account to find out the latest in your neighborhood.
