Sebago Brewing Company (Portland, Maine)

After our early dinner at Nosh, Bret and I decided to digest by strolling around Portland.  What I love about Portland is its similarity to Boston in maintaining a large town feel to a city.  Eventually, we got cold and decided to stop in at the Sebago Brewing Company to warm up with a few beers.

We managed to grab two seats at the bar and found both the staff and the other patrons to be super friendly.  The bar had a comfortable feel to it with wooden counters and chalkboard signs.

While Bret had had some of Sebago's brews before, I was completely unfamiliar with their beers.  A sign hanging in front of me listed two of their seasonal beers so I decided to give those a try.

I tried both of these brews.  The local Harvest ale tasted a bit too hoppy for me.  So I switched to the "Bass Ackwards" Berryblue Ale, which had a natural sweetness to it (unlike most blueberry beers that are way too sweet!).

Bret and I stayed for a few hours to watch the Celtics game and we started to get hungry again.  We perused the menu and decided to order the potato nachos.  We were both intrigued by this appetizer because the menu described it as "crispy potato slices" topped with the usual nacho fixings.  We couldn't figure out if these would be crispy potato chips or non-crispy cooked potato slices.

It turns out potato nachos use waffle fries, which makes a lot of sense for holding and scooping up the toppings.  If you love fries or nachos as much as I do, this is definitely a great dish to order at the bar!

Sebago Brewing Company has multiple locations throughout Maine.  In Portland, Sebago Brewing Company can be found at 164 Middle Street, Portland, ME.
