As Bret and I prepare for our big move, we are doing a lot of purging. I'm seriously embarassed by the amount of random things (especially papers, linens, electrical cords) that we have managed to accumulate in Beacon Hill. Over the Fourth of July weekend, we finally started to get organized and shredded two whole garbage bags worth of personal documents. Insane, right?
We've also managed to accumulate a lot of books, shoes, purses (for me), and clothing. I reached out to my Twitter followers and Facebook friends about a good place to donate these items. We got a lot of great recommendations and after some research, we finally settled upon Boomerangs.
Boomerangs is a resale consignment store where the proceeds go toward funding the Aids Action Committee of Massachusetts. I actually used to volunteer for the Aids Action Committee when I was in high school, so I was thrilled to donate to such a great cause.
Boomerangs has four great locations in Boston and Cambridge, but the Special Edition store in the South End is the closest location for us. Over the Fourth of July weekend, we felt really great about donating six huge bags of clothing, purses and shoes. We thought we were done purging but over this past weekend, we dropped off more bags of coats, scarves and books. I felt especially good about our donations when I even spied a pair of my old shoes in the window! I wore these shoes once to match a bridesmaid dress and I'm hoping that someone else will put them to good use for a good cause!
As we continue to clean and pack, I suspect we'll be making at least one more visit to Boomerangs as we continue to discover more gently used items to donate!
Tell me, what are some of your favorite places to donate gently used items?
