Boston Gets Back to Nature

A few weeks ago, I got an email about an upcoming event on September 8th at Government Center called Boston Gets Back to Nature.  The event is designed to offer us city folks a chance to connect with nature in the middle of the city.  I couldn't really conceptualize the event but since it was free and hosted by Back to Nature, I couldn't resist and convinced Alicia to come check it out with me.

As we approached Government Center, it looked completely different.  There were trees and plants everywhere.  Alicia and I took a stroll and we spotted Madagascar Vanilla Wafers in the "Vanilla-Orchid Veranda".

And we were soon given great reusable Back to Nature bags that contained Back to Nature samples and coupons!  As we walked along, we were given more great samples, coupons, plant seeds and recipes.  We felt like we were trick or treating!

The Fudge Mint Cookies were found in the "Mint Chocolate Retreat", which smelled deliciously like chocolate from the piles of cocoa beans spread throughout.

And I couldn't help but adore the "Sunflower Basil Pergola", which combined two of my favorite things in the world - basil and sunflowers!

We stopped to chat with Janice of Meal Makeover Moms, who remembered me from the Eggland's Best event this past spring.  She unfortunately couldn't do a cooking demo but she did provide me with a great pesto recipe that I can't wait to try out!

When I got back to the office, I tried out the Madagascar Vanilla Wafers and they were the perfect treat with a nice vanilla flavor.  From what I've learned, Back to Nature products contain no artificial flavors, preservatives, high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils.  I can definitely stand behind that and I'm excited to find that my local Whole Foods carries Back to Nature products!

I felt so relaxed after catching up with Alicia as we strolled around this little piece of "nature" created in the city.  Here are some other great photos of the little oasis created in Government Center yesterday!

What or where is your hidden oasis in the city that brings you back to nature?
