That would be a praline topping consisting of pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. It is a constant delight to your sense of smell to wander off the beach into G's kitchen. From the crisp salty ocean air through the beachfront slider door you are greeted by all kinds of comforting scents. This mornings cinnamony spices soaking into egg battered layers of crusty french bread, or past nights of pungent seafood smells, laced with warm melted butter, hints of fresh basil....you get the idea. This kitchen always smells incredible and the food always tastes even better. Such a sweet and indulgent, artery clogging breakfast it was. The Beach day 3: Kite flying! Well, there was kite flying everyday. Bocce. There was Bocce everyday too.
Lunch day 3: Lobster Rolls & Tomato Gazpacho. Tomato gazpacho was actually offered everyday at lunch. Not sure why this was the first day I dug into it. Cold soup after a morning in the hot sun is fantastic. And there was no wayy we finished all the lobster from the previous night. It was tossed in a little mayo and placed over a bed of lettuce in a hot dog bun for a delicious lunch combo.
We snacked on Pimento cheese dip smothered on Ritz crackers and celery sticks. Dinner night 3: Southern Food NightSweet & Smokey Spareribs accompanied by peanut lime slaw, white wine braised kale, root beer stovetop beans and more of those yummy Biscuits! Gretchen really outdid herself with this meal. Especially considering the fact that she rarely eats meat and this was her first time cooking spareribes! They were slow cooked all afternoon and came out nice and tender with a syrupy glaze that was full of intense flavors from the rub of smoked paprika, brown sugar, ground clove, ground ginger and chipotle chilli powder. I remembered we had a handle of Southern Comfort Sweet Tea "just add ice and serve" sitting amongst the gin and vodka bottles on the counter. It was the perfect drink to stand up to a hearty southern meal. Nice purchase Adam and Douglas! As you might have gathered, a night here wouldn't be complete without dessert. Tequila Watermelon and Caipirinha ice pops! Gretchen mixed and froze these a day earlier. I think they had too much booze in them to freeze completely (this is a good thing) so they ended up being more like a slushie than a popsicle. This was just the pick me up I needed for a late night, after a serious southern food coma set in.
Breakfast day 4: Scrambled Egg Casserole w/ Toast & Biscuits.
You might seriously consider making a large batch of biscuits, seeing as they can accompany any type of meal, anytime of day! I slathered mine with Trappist raspberry jam and my toast with almond butter.
Lunch day 4:
Someone had to clean out the fridge before we headed home. Don't worry, I wasn't the only one. It was once again glorious weather so we stuck around for most of the day. My Mom joined us for a few hours, it was great to spend some time with her. She even took a few non-candid photos of the crew. And that my friends, is a wrap.
