While I was away on vacation, the generous folks at Dolce Nonna sent me a jar of their Succulent Spiced Pears. Dolce Nonna is a gourmet food company that specializes in pickled and marinated Italian vegetables. While their product selection is currently limited, they are introducing their new Succulent Spiced Pears to the market and I was eager to give them a try.
When I opened the small jar of pears, I was happy to find a whole cinammon stick in the jar. I tasted a sliced pear straight out of the jar and I was immediately impressed by its spiciness. The jar lists anise seeds, cinammon and ginger as ingredients and the ginger definitely gives a nice kick. I was pleasantly surprised that the pears weren't cloyingly sweet (like most canned or jarred fruits), which would make them a good addition for dessert.
Coincidentally enough, I recently won a free pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream my fellow food blogger friend Athena's blog, Forays of a Finance Foodie. Using my free pint coupon, I picked up a pint of Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
I put a generous scoop (or two) in a bowl with some whipped cream and the spiced pears that I had warmed up in the microwave. The spiced pears helped cut the sweetness of the chocolate ice cream with chunks of fudge brownies and made a really delicious dessert on a hot summer's night.
Thanks again to Dolce Nonna for sending over the Succulent Spiced Pears. If you are interested in checking out Dolce Nonna's products, you can either order them online or find them at the certain farmer's markets.
