Memorial Day

It was a long weekend. I saw Sex and the City 2 with the girls & drank to my livers content with friends. I sunbathed in the park by myself. I had an amazing brunch with my boyfriend. I partied & ate crazy good amounts of food with more of the same friends. Then I gave thanks and took a moment to mourn all those who made it possible.
The Third Annual Memorial Day for Peace ceremony was held from 1:00-3:00 at Christopher Columbus Park.
I actually heard about it on the news as I was drinking my late morning cup of coffee and eating my cream cheese and smoked salmon bagel for breakfast.
I set out on foot and immediately noticed the intense layer of smog. Holy Canadian wildfires. :(
This is just insane. You can really feel the thickness in the air just walking down the street.I made my way to the ceremony where they had a memorial with a pair of boots for every fallen soldier from Massachusetts who died fighting in Afghanistan or Iraq.
Thank you, every one of you, from the bottom of my heart.
I don't personally know anyone who's died in battle. I've never experienced the impacts of war first hand like some of the families mourning here today. Members of alliances such as Military Families Speak Out and Gold Star Families for Peace made powerful speeches.
So intense that at one point tears were brought to my eyes.
I didn't stay but longer than a few speeches and enough time for me to let it all sink in. Sink in as much as it possibly can for someone who can't even begin to imagine the heartache and pain these families are experiencing.
I continued my Memorial Day along the Harborwalk
Central Wharf
I took some random pictures. Like the IMAX building at the Aquarium.
And these giant aluminum panels at India Wharf.
Where people, myself included, stop to hang out.
What can I say they are kinda fun to photograph. In case I had you intrigued: Untitled Landscape (1964) by David von Schlegell
The Residences at Rowes Wharf appear to be undergoing some construction.
Independence Wharf.
The view, Fort Point ChannelI spy the Hood Milk Bottle
I also spy an urban oasis at the Intercontinental Hotel. I was SO tempted to stop for a drinky-poo.
I made it all the way to South Station where I just so happened to meet Adam returning from another day on the golf course. As we walked home, he could not be persuaded to have a drink at the above local. All for the better I suppose. The drinks (and cash) gotta stop flowing at some point....Back at home I ate some leftover vanilla pudding with berries and cool whip
and remembered.....
