On Friday morning, Bret and I both woke up
so well-rested in our room at the
Charles Hotel. By the time we managed to rouse ourselves out of bed, get showered, dressed and packed up, we were starving! There are obviously so many great places to eat in Harvard Square, but we decided to head downstairs to
Henrietta's Table to check out their breakfast menu.
Bret and I have splurged on Henrietta's Table's
over-the-top weekend buffet brunch before but we haven't had the opportunity to try out their a la carte breakfast menu before. The
breakfast menu is quite extensive and it isn't surprising that there are lots of local ingredients on the menu.
Bret and I had a sunny table in the middle of the dining room and the atmosphere was really relaxed. I sipped on some organic coffee and read our complimentary New York Times newspaper while we waited for our breakfasts to arrive.
Bret and I each ordered two eggs but our dishes couldn't have been more different. Bret ordered his over-medium with crispy applewood smoked bacon, potato hash and a huge stack of anadama bread.
I ordered my eggs poached and chose sausage instead of bacon. My breakfast also came with potato hash and I also chose the anadama toast.
I put my eggs on top of the potato hash and let the egg yolks break on top of the potatoes. Can we just call this the money shot?
The breakfast was so hearty and I loved every bite, although I did find the potato hash needed a tad more salt. The sausages lacked the crispy texture I desired but was very flavorful and happily lacked the typical grease found in breakfast sausages. I've had the anadama bread here before and it never disappoints. Portions are large and I sadly left half of my potato hash and more than half of my toast behind although I gave a valiant effort to finish it all!
Henrietta's Table is located in the Charles Hotel at One Bennett Square, Cambridge, MA.
