Forgive me for gushing, but Joanne Chang is truly a remarkable person. In a previous life she was a mathematician, but now she is the owner of Flour Bakery + Cafe (which now has three locations) and co-owner of Myers + Chang. For those of you don't live in the Boston area, Joanne is probably best known for her appearance on Food Network's Throwdown with Bobby Flay where she was challenged to a sticky bun throwdown...and of course she won!
I've been following Joanne on Twitter for some time now and I've seen how the writing of this cookbook has been such a labor of love for her. So the book release at her newest Flour location in Cambridge was definitely a reason to celebrate. Apparently all of Boston and Cambridge wanted to help Joanne celebrate because the place was packed! I first made a beeline over to the wine and was happy to see Nick from Central Bottle Wine who guided me to a wonderful dry prosecco.
Since this was a celebration, there was no surprise at the amount of food at this event.
There were a heck of a lot more mini pastries but I somehow didn't take photos of them...I must have been too busy eating them!
After purchasing my book, I waited in line patiently and I have to admit that I gushed when I saw Joanne. She graciously accepted my compliments and happily posed for a photo.
Terrible picture of me - I've got my "I'm so excited" cheesy grin! |
While I waited for my friends to get their books signed, I checked out the Oreo station where Flour's version of Oreos were being stuffed by the friendly staff.
While nibbling on pastries, it was great to see old friends who were all there to celebrate Joanne's labor of love. I think we were all in agreement with the theme of the evening:
Congratulations Joanne for this wonderful achievement!
