Have you heard of the Home Sweet Home First Annual Amateur Bake-Off Contest? Do you like to bake? Are you an aspiring pastry chef? Do you want to win a pastry class with a master pastry chef and be featured in a how2heroes video? Here's your chance to show your stuff!
All you have to do to enter is submit a dessert recipe in one of the following categories:
- Pies & Tarts
- Anything Chocolate
- Cookies
- Cakes & Cupcakes
Three finalists will be selected in each category, for a total of twelve finalists with one winner selected in each category by the judges at the Home Sweet Home Event Tasting Competition on October 22, 2011, at the Cambridge Hyatt Regency. (Tickets can be purchased here.)
Your dessert could also be eligible to win in two additional categories to be selected the night of the competition:
- Best Local Ingredients Dessert
- Grand Prize - Judges' Best in Show
The grand prize is a pastry class with Master Pastry Chef Delphin Gomes, New England’s only French master pastry chef, at The Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and being featured in a how2heroes video. Other prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists in each category.
The desserts will be judged by celebrity judges Lee Napoli (owner of Chocolee Chocolates and founder of New England's first and only association for pastry professionals), Clara Silverstein (author of three cookbooks including The Boston Chefs Table, The New England Soup Factory and A White House Garden Cookbook and a long-time food writer in the Boston area), and Lynne Viera (President & CEO, how2heroes).
The bakers of the top ten desserts in each of the four categories will be invited to a preliminary judging by a separate tasting committee of Boston area food bloggers to be held at the how2heroes offices in Cambridge, Mass., on September 19th, 2011. The top three finalists per category will prepare their entries for the Celebrity Judge tasting at the Home Sweet Home Event on October 22, 2011, at the Cambridge Hyatt Regency.
The bake-off is sponsored by the Cambridge Housing Assistance Fund, how2heroes, and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts and supports the Cambridge Housing Assistance Fund.
